Drawings, photographs, writings and miscellaneous material, from Andrea’s birth to the end of middle school.

Some of the earliest drawings bear contemporary notes by his mother Giuliana. Some of the later drawings, made at school, instead bear the initials of his father Enrico, his art teacher.

“I made my first recognizable little drawing at eighteen months, it was a bear, which shows how strong my need to draw was.”

from Milo Manara Andrea Pazienza
L’autore e il fumetto
no. 4-5 (Editori del Grifo, 1982)

1956 – 1960

“Even before he could talk, Andrea started drawing. He was eighteen months old when, on a little blackboard my mother kept in the kitchen, he drew a perfectly recognizable bear. From that moment we understood that drawing was what Andrea liked doing most, with any means and wherever he found space. His desire to draw was matched by his desire to tell stories, and so, from the age of three, Andrea made little illustrated stories such as The Cat and the Mouse and Pinocchio. At first, since he could not yet write, I did the writing for him. His drawings were admired by everyone, and all of them, especially his grandparents, aunts and uncles, kept asking him for more.”
