Classmates

In the last page of the story Lupi, starring Zanardi and published in issue 5 of Corto Maltese in May 1984, Andrea Pazienza announces a “school trip”, hinting at the imminent publication of a new story on this theme. The hint, placed at the close of the story, works as a sort of preview, suggesting a narrative continuity that would remain unresolved.

The following pages make up an incomplete dummy of a story about Zanardi and his pals, titled Compagni di classe (Classmates). In content and approach, the material seems to correspond to the comic announced by Pazienza, bearing witness to an interrupted stage of work and offering a significant glimpse of a project that remained at the preparatory stage.
