“That summer day, in July of 1984, we were at the Club Tenco in Sanremo. Back then the Tenco took place in July. After Andrea had brought his drawing to the foyer of the Teatro Ariston for the daily display of the cartoonists’ drawings about the previous evening’s show (an idea of Vincenzo Mollica’s), we all went to lunch at a trattoria near the theater. Fried anchovies and French fries with white wine made us all very merry. Then some, like Sergio Staino, Giuliano Rossetti and Angese, decided to go back to the hotel to rest; Cavezzali went off to gamble at the Casino, and Andrea and I decided to wander around Sanremo, given the beautiful summer day and also because I wanted to take some photos of the young genius cartoonist. Andrea was happy because he had agreed with Staino to do a funny little story together, and so was I, because I was taking photos that expressed the Andrea Pazienza of that summer day in Sanremo.”
